We took three runners to recce the Overland course, a chance to discover the heights, depths and determination behind trail running. What follows is a field guide that explores the environment along the way.

The trails of the region are primarily topped with Tunbridge soil and finely crushed rock fragments, remnants of the heavily glaciated landscape that once blanketed the Northeastern Highlands. The remaining glacial till leaves a loamy, yet gritty surface that’s runner-friendly, promising soft impact and varied terrain.
